Sick of waiting for the next-gen offerings from Microsoft and Sony? Alienware has designed a desktop PC that puts the current crop of consoles to shame.
The X51's a small, games-focused computer designed for your living room rather than your office, taking the fight back to console makers. It's a multi-talented device: not only will the X51 run every streaming service and social app your Xbox 360 or PS3 can offer, it'll do everything a talented Windows PC can do. too.
The X51's ambitions are obvious from both its Xbox-esque case and its connectivity: It's se' up to output 1080p out of the box. making it excellent for TV connectivity. Simply add a HDMI 1.4 cable (the 3D-capable kind) and you're away.
It may come in a small package, but this Is a decently powerful PC. The basic spec includes a dual-core 3.3 GHz Core i3 Sandy Bridge Chip, backed up by 4GB RAM and Nvidia's GT 545 graphics card, which has a 1GB of fast video memory to itself. That'll be enough to handle new games at 720p, but for a little extra you can add a quad-core i7 chip, twice as much memory and a GTX 555. Either way, the graphics will embarrass your PS3.
The optional Blu-ray drive is an essential upgrade for 3D games and movies, and the X51's 7.1 audio capabilities will ensure it plays nice with your home cinema setup. Had enough of that unsightly pile of games, CDs and DVDs? A 1TB hard drive and two USB3.0 ports for speedy connection to your hard drives will cover all your storage needs.
While console manufacturers have been known to threaten modders with prosecution for messing about with their hardware, PCs are easily upgraded. The X51 can be opened and improved when it starts to look outdated, and intel's upcoming Ivy Bridge chips will fit in the same socket should you decide to do a brain-swap.
