How Does SMS/MMS Work ?

SMS : Like calls, SMSes are also controlled by towers. The only difference between them is that SMS transference is managed by SMSC (Short Message Service Centre) and not the exchange. When you send an SMS, digital signals reach the SMSC through various towers. The SMSC finds the number in the Home Location Register, checks its current location and delivers it to your phone.

MMS : The process with MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) is the same, but to avail this service your phone must have Internet, USB, Bluetooth or Wi-Fi technology. The recipient should have a compatible cell phone too. If the phone does not support MMS, you can't send and receive multimedia messages via MMS.

Don't post rude or nasty comments. Ethnic slurs, personal insults and abuses are rather uncool. Criticize, but know where to draw the line.
